How it works
Find ellipse area using its two semiaxes. Each semiaxis is half of the full width in that direction.
Inputs and units
| Input | Example value | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Semiaxis a | 6 | Enter a numeric value. Half the full dimension in that direction. Must be greater than zero. |
| Semiaxis b | 4 | Enter a numeric value. Half the full dimension in that direction. Must be greater than zero. |

Reading the result
Enter lengths in the same unit. Area uses the square of that unit and volume its cube. Height is perpendicular to the base; use a sloping side only when the input explicitly asks for it.
Questions and answers
Can I use the example values for my own calculation?
The example values illustrate the calculation. Replace every input with your own information, especially dates, rates and the selected operation.
Should I enter the full width and height?
Use half of each full dimension. An ellipse 12 units wide and 8 high has semiaxes 6 and 4. Entering 12 and 8 as semiaxes makes the area four times too large.
Why are some results rounded?
Results display up to 8 decimal places. Calculations use the unrounded values; very small values use scientific notation. JavaScript floating-point arithmetic can introduce tiny rounding differences.
Are my inputs sent to a server?
The calculator processes inputs in your browser. Its code does not send your values to a server.
